Suddenly Sunday - Prohibition Week

Sunday is here again – one more day before the work week starts again. I hope you are all having a great start to this new year. The past week has been super stressful for me at work and I hope that this week is MUCH better (aka no more migraines!). We got a little snow here over the last two days, but nothing like the several inches they were projecting. How about you, any snow?

Last week was still a little bit of a catch up week for me around the blog. I posted two reviews that I have been trying to post for awhile – Watermark by Vanitha Sankaran and Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant. I also posted my review of the new episode of the American Experience series – Robert E Lee.

This week I have decided to make Prohibition Week. I have always been interested in what happened and what life was like during Prohibition. I eagerly ate up the first season of Boardwalk Empire. Appearing this week on the blog will be a historical spotlight on the 18th Amendment and Prohibition, a look back at some of the political cartoons of the period, a feature on books set during Prohibition, and to cap it off – a review of Boardwalk Empire Season 1. I am very much looking forward to this week and hope you will stop by for some of the events.

Also at the end of the week I’m hoping to have my review of Queen of Last Hopes by Susan Higginbotham up (nothing to do with Prohibition week).

Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Suddenly Sunday is hosted by Svea at Confessions and Ramblings of a Muse in the Fog.

  1. I liked Sacred Hearts very much. Having been educated in a Convent throughout, I have a tendency to lean a little in favor of books with this kind of background. I have tried to get Watermark and not succeeded (as yet).

  2. Mystica - my problem with Sacred Hearts was I felt like nothing happened. I thought what she wrote was well written, and I have to say I did learn A LOT of things about convents (especially about all the times of prayer) - but it just wasn't for me. Glad to hear that you liked it!

  4. Prohibition Week! I love that! I've got Boardwalk Empire all DVR'd but haven't watched it yet. I'm dying to -- it's one of my favorite historical eras!
