Audiobook Week - My Audiobook Year

Today’s focus as a part of Audiobook Week is to analyze my audiobook reading this year. Here is the prompt: Are you new to audiobooks in the last year? Have you been listening to them forever but discovered something new this year? Favorite titles? New times/places to listen? This is your chance to introduce yourself and your general listening experience.

Audiobooks are relatively new to me – I think I listened to my first one in late 2009. I discovered audiobooks entirely on accident too. I was wandering around my library looking for something and stumbled into the audio/visual section. I don’t think I even realized before then that there was such a thing as an audiobook. My first audiobook was 1st to Die by James Patterson and I have been enjoying listening ever since.

For the most part, I listen to the audiobooks during my drive to and from work. I have always had about an hour drive each way and you can only listen to your favorite music cd’s so many times before you don’t want to ever listen to them again and I don’t get the best radio reception either. You can really work your way through a book with 2 hours a day listening. I have now started listening to them sometimes when I am at the gym too.

I have for the most part decided that this is the time that I will really get to the books that I have been meaning to read for awhile. Usually classics, mysteries, a little of this and a little of that. I have been working on catching up on my James Patterson, Janet Evanovich, Chronicles of Narnia etc. These are all things that I would probably never get to otherwise.

I highly recommend trying out an audiobook if you haven’t in the past, it can really kill some time for you!

What has the last year been like for you and audiobooks?
