Mailbox Monday #187

I'm almost starting to think that I should make these a monthly event since that is how often I appear to be posting these!  Here is what I have acquired over the last couple of weeks.

Received for Review:

Young Jane Austen: Becoming a Writer by Lisa Pliscou (received from author) - just a lovely little book and so different.  Review coming soon as I already inhaled this book.  I'm not a huge Jane Austen fan by I enjoyed this on.  I agreed to review it because I was interested in the format and structure of the book.

The Tapestry by Nancy Bilyeau (received from the publisher) - looks like I have a marathon coming up of Bilyeau's books because I have them all to review.

The Oregon Trail: An American Journey by Rinker Buck (requested via Netgalley) - I have always been interested by all things Oregon Trail and this one is the author's trek across the trail.

The Rebel Queen by Michelle Moran (received from author) - Michelle Moran, need I say more!

Gallagher's Pride by M.K. McClintock (audio download from author) - I had read the Christmas short story collection last Christmas and loved the author's storytelling style of a western historical fiction romance.  Great audio production - another series of books I inhaled!

Cleo by Lucy Coats (requested via Netgalley) - love everything Cleopatra and this is a YA take on her life.  The only one I have read as a YA on her before was Royal Diaries series book.

Beneath the Heart of the Sea by Owen Chase (requested via Negalley) - I am going to pair this one with Nathaniel Philbrick's The Heart of the Sea.

Among the Fair Magnolias by Tamera Alexander, Shelley Gray, Dorothy Love, & Elizabeth Musser (requested via Netgalley) - I am loving anthology/compilations lately and especially those set in the South.

Arthur by Stephen Lawhead (Kindle purchase) - I have been working on building by Lawhead collection for awhile.

The Golden Apple by Michelle Diener (Kindle purchase) - I have enjoyed the few Diener books I have read and have started collecting her works.

Her Irish Surrender by Kit Morgan (Kindle purchase) - I have been picking up the books in the Holiday Mail Order Brides series throughout the year and this one was on sale during St. Patrick's Day.

Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross (Kindle purchase) - I have heard so many good things about this book, I jumped on it when there was a sale.

Queen of the Waves by Janice Thompson (Kindle purchase) - Titanic set - so of course I grabbed it.

The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon (Audible purchase) - Diana Gabaldon, need I say more!

Voyager by Diana Gabaldon (Audible purchase) - see above

Written in My Own Hearts Blood by Diana Gabaldon (Audible purchase) - see above

Mailbox Monday #186

It's Monday, and I am actually posting my mailbox on a Monday!!! How about that for a change! Just a short and sweet mailbox this week - also a change.

All of these were purchased this week (and I remember purchasing 3 of them...):

• The Lion and the Rose by Kate Quinn - this is the only Quinn book that I didn't have in any form.  At the same time I ordered this one, I order paperback copies of Quinn's Lady of the Eternal City (because the ARC copy is driving me crazy trying to read it, each line is numbered) and also C.W. Gortner's The Tudor Vendetta.  Quinn and Gortner are two of the few author's who I feel compelled to have all of their books in physical paper copies on my shelves, the e-books just weren't cutting it!
• The Sentinels of Andersonville by Tracy Groot - Kindle freebie that I picked up a couple days ago.  Don't know too much about it - but it was free and about the Civil War, so I picked it up.
• The Forgotten Seamstress by Liz Trenow - a WWI book/time-switch novel that had apparently been on my wishlist for quite some time and went on significant sale this past week.
• The Midnight Rose by Lucinda Riley - I honestly don't remember buying this one but apparently it is on my Kindle...I think it is a bad thing when you don't even remember buying something a week ago...Sounds like a pretty interesting book though!

Mailbox Monday #185

Mailbox Monday is becoming less and less of a Monday occurrence on this blog - here we are again with Mailbox Monday on Tuesday!  Let's see what I received over the last couple of weeks.

Quite a few books arrived over the last couple weeks!

Received for Review:

• Black Diamonds by Catherine Boyd - (received from publisher) - sounds like such a fascinating premise of English history that I know nothing about.
• The Evening Chorus by Helen Humphreys - (received from publisher) - a different type of WWII novel.  I have never read anything with a setting (at least in part) in a German POW camp.
• Heir to a Prophecy by Mercedes Rochelle - (received from author) - a continued telling of part of Shakespeare's Macbeth - my favorite of his plays.
• The Settling Earth by Rebecca Burns - (received from author) - a collection of short stories set in colonial New Zealand, a play I know absolutely nothing about.
• Mademoiselle Chanel by C. W. Gortner (received from publisher for France Book Tours) - C.W. Gortner - that's all the reason I can give for grabbing up this one.
• Race to Tibet by Sophie Schiller (received from author for France Book Tours) - I love adventure style novels and this sounds just like that type of novel.
• City of God by Cecelia Holland (received from publisher) - an interesting premise, even if I didn't absolute love Great Maria, my prior read from this author.
• The Temple of Light by Daniela Piazza (received from publisher) - another interesting premise - 15th century Italy.
• Inspector of the Dead by David Morrell (received from publisher) - the sequel to Murder as a Fine Art which I enjoyed last year.

Purchased:

• The Inheritance by Tamera Alexander - haven't read any of her books yet, but have heard good things.
• So Shines the Night by Tracy Higley - another that I haven't read, but have been slowly collecting these as they come on sale.
• Woodrow Wilson by John Milton Cooper Jr - for my research paper for school
• The Will To Believe: Woodrow Wilson, World War I, and America's Strategy for Peace and Security by Ross Kennedy - another for my research paper for school
• A Future Arrived by Phillip Rock - I think I have at least one of the other books in this series and this one came up for free one day last week
• Inamorata by Megan Chance - loved Prima Donna by this author and love that her novels are set in the Pacific Northwest, a very different HF setting
• John Quincy Adams by Harlow Giles Unger - this came up on discount on Amazon, so I decided to pick it up to continue my Presidential readings that I have been slacking on for awhile
• Classic Love Poems - an Audible freebie, read by Richard Armitage!
• In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick - I picked this up to read before the movie comes out.  It was supposed to come out in March so I wanted to get this read soon, but has now been pushed back to December 2015
• The Last to Know by Posie Graeme-Evans - an author I have been following and this short story came to my attention this week
• The Three Fates by Kate Quinn - a 3 short story ebook Kate released this week as a thank you to everyone for supporting her these past weeks.

 

That was more than I thought that I had received!  Some great books.  What did you receive this week?
