Mailbox Monday #48

Mailbox Monday is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page.

Another Monday, Another Mailbox!
This week I received 4 books in the mail - one of which I am SUPER excited to read.

I have continued by PaperBackSwap request rampage and received three more this week:

Mary, Called Magdalene and Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles by Margaret George and The Glassblower of Murano by Marina Fiorato. These have been on my wishlist for awhile.

Then I received for review from publisher Penguin Books - Penelope's Daughter by Laurel Corona! I have wanted to read this one ever since I heard about it. I have always loved the story of The Odyssey by Homer and here is a new spin on the story. Here is the blurb:

"Xanthe is the brave, beautiful daughter of Odysseus and Penelope - and potential heir to the throne of Ithaca. But the royal court is in upheaval. A battle is being waged inside the palace, and upstairs, Xanthe is barricaded in her chambers - her only way to avoid the rapacious suitors who will do anything to become king, even if it means murdering her brother and abducting her as a bride.

With her father gone for twenty years and the threat of defeat closer than ever, Xanthe turns to her loom to weave the adventures of her life, from her upbringing among servants and slaves, to the years spent in hiding with her mother's cousin, Helen of Troy - with whom Xanthe learned the pleasures of friendship and the ecstasy of worship - to the passion of her sexual awakening in the arms of the man she loves.

And when a man dressed as a begger appears at the palace, home after twenty years, Xanthe will stand before her loom, wondering who will be the one to decide her future: a suitor she loathes, a brother she cannot respect, or a father who doesn't know who she is..."

How did your mailbox treat you this week?

  1. Receiving books in the mail is always fun!

I have been always interested in Mary Queen of Scotland, don't know why I have not read anything in regards to her yet. I heard of The Glassblower of Murano and from what I recall, the book sounded interesting. I wish I could remember exactly where and when I heard of this book. sigh.
Penelope's Daughter sounds good. I hope it is.

Have fun reading these books! :)
