Giveaway - Dancing with Mr. Darcy

Hello Everyone! I am pleased to offer a Jane Austen-esque book up for grabs for this next giveaway!

Thanks to the wonderful Harper Collins I have one copy of Dancing with Mr. Darcy available for followers in the US or Canada.

For those of you who don’t know, Dancing with Mr. Darcy is an anthology of the winning entries in the 2009 Jane Austen Short Story Award contest. All the short stories are inspired by Jane Austen and Chawton House, where she spent the most productive literary years of her life. The book is edited by Sarah Waters, nominee for the MAN/Booker Prize in 2009 for The Little Stranger, and with an introduction from Rebecca Smith, the great-great-great-great-great-niece of Jane Austen, these twenty short stories are fully supported by the Chawton House Estate and were selected by an elite team of judges.

The book goes on sale today – October 19th!

My first Austen book was a high school requirement (Pride and Prejudice), and I'm ashamed to say I didn't appreciate it back then. I love Austen now, and read as much as I can about the Regency period. (Northanger Abbey is on my fall reading list).

I read Persuasion at least once a year, and it never gets old. Never.

  3. I've been reluctant to read any of the many Austen-esque novels. A collection of short stories sounds perfect for a trial run. Thanks for the giveaway, and I am a follower through Google Reader.

+1 I had to read a Jane Austen book in high school and didn't love it. It was about 10 years ago I read P&P and loved it!

  5. Hi and Happy Autumn! :) I'm a brand new GFC follower. . . and how I started with Jane Austen. . . well, I never even heard of her until I started realizing that the vast majority of historical romances I was reading was part of this whole Regency period. And from there, discovered authors and they would mention Jane Austen (besides Georgette Heyer) as an inspiration, or referring to the movies. Stuff like that. So, I eventually got the six books, read each one before watching all the movies I had, which took a while, but I started with P&P, of course, and just loved it all. And I love reading Austen related books because I just can't get enough of those characters! :)

  6. I love anthologies. This should be a delightful read. The advantage of anthologies is you get so many different "takes" on the theme. I'll have to look for this one.

    I am a GFC Follower.

My former boss was a huge Jane Austen fan and kept insisting I read her books. It wasn't until I saw PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (the Colin Firth version) that I decided I needed to read it. I now have copies of most of her books.

I was reading about Pride and Prejudice on an internet site and then checked the book out of the library and have enjoyed Jane Austen since.

  9. What a great giveaway - I love Jane Austen variations!

I can't remember the first time I read Austen, but I can say that my older daughter renewed my interest in her when she fell in love with the Keira Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice and of course had to read the book. So I did, too. Now I'm reading them all. +2
