No feature week would be complete without reading recommendations. I was specifically looking for historical fiction - as I am sure that there are a lot of books set during Prohibition. Here were a few that I have found.
The Hot Kid by Elmore Leonard (**** see review)
The Moonshine War by Elmore Leonard
Billy Bathgate by E. L. Doctorow
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (**** read this in 2009)
Black Duck by Janet Taylor Lisle (YA fiction)
Whiskey River by Loren D Estleman
Winds of Change Series by Julie Lessman (particularly book 3, which is a work in progress as of the date of this article)
The Songwriter by Beatrice Colin
The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett
The Wettest Country in the World by Matt Bondurant
Any others that you can think of? Please drop me your suggestions and I will add them to the list!

Dizzy C - thanks, I will add it to the list!
ReplyDeleteDashiell Hammett's The Thin Man is fabulously dark. The movies are wonderful and I do adore them but they are so far from the original story they might as well be a different franchise. I highly recommend Hammett -- his characters all operate in the Prohibition-era world very easily!
ReplyDeleteAudra - thanks! On an entirely different topic - I picked up a copy of the book version of Breakfast at Tiffany's - thanks to your suggestion. I will let you know what I think.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear what you think!!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it, but The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant is a novel based on a true story about a moonshiner family...
